Little Saigon Park Development

Updated: September 5, 2023

Fall 2023

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Groundbreaking Event on July 6, 2023. The contractor is making progress on the excavation and grading.  We are working hard to open the park by Lunar New Year 2024; however, we have some concerns due to a few obstacles the contractor has encountered. The soil conditions required us to excavate further than we anticipated and to put in extra supporting ultra blocks. Additionally, we have to accommodate a major wire/cable that intersects the planned accessible pathway into the park. We are working with our design team and Seattle City Light on a solution on the guy wire.

Seattle Park District provides $3,635,438 for planning, design and construction of this site into a park.

Planning: 2018
Design: 2019 - 2022
Construction: 2023 - Early 2024

Project Description

Seattle Parks and Recreation purchased this land in 2013 and will soon transform it into a public amenity space for recreation, play and community events. Besides, the park will provide a pedestrian connection between Jackson and King, with an accessible path navigating over 20’ of grade change.

Community Participation

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) has determined that to develop an existing gravel parking lot into a public park does not have probable significant adverse impact on the environment. An environmental impact statement is not required under RCW 43.21C.030(2)(c). This decision was made after review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on file with SPR. This information is available to the public on request. The Determination of Non-Significance was issued May 12, 2022.
