We know that the closure of the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge closure has been tough. More drivers are traveling on the detour routes, which is causing additional congestion and increased air pollution, noise and traffic impacts for people living along detour routes in Duwamish Valley neighborhoods, like Highland Park, Roxhill, South Delridge, Roxbury, Georgetown, South Park and SODO.

Doing your part by staying local is a great opportunity to discover incredible new businesses, services, and destinations that help make West Seattle and the Duwamish Valley unique and vibrant communities. Plus, you are helping reduce impacts to our neighbors along the detour routes and keep the roads clear for essential workers.

Remote Work and School

Commute Seattle is a City partner that can help your businesses build a travel option plan (i.e. telework, flexible scheduling, compressed work week, satellite offices, vanpool, transit programs, and active commuting) for your West Seattle employees.

Low-cost internet access is available for residents from several companies that offer internet service in Seattle for approximately $10 a month.

Public libraries are offering curbside services, including two West Seattle locations - Southwest Library (9010 35th Ave SW) and High Point Library (3411 SW Raymond). These two library branches also provide curbside printing-pick up service.

Xfinity free Wi-Fi hotspots are now available in businesses and outdoor locations for free public use. You can access it from the Xfinity mobile app (iOS | Android) or from your web browser (enter your zip code at the bottom of the page for a map of nearby locations).

Free city surplus computers are available for Seattle-based nonprofit human service agencies and schools that serve Seattle residents. If your group is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves Seattle residents, you may be eligible to receive surplus computers.

Affordable computers, are available via a City partnership with InterConnection. This program provides $99 refurbished laptops, desktops, flat screens, tablets, and high-end laptops.

Discount smart phones and monthly telephone service discounts are eligible for consumers living on low incomes.

Transportation for Seniors and People with Special Transportation Needs

The FindARide.org website links older adults and people with disabilities to transportation options in your area. The Sound Generations' West Seattle Hyde Shuttle offers free door-to-door van service throughout Southwest Seattle for adults 55 years and older and for people with disabilities.

Free COVID-19 Testing: Anyone who lives, works, or regularly visits Seattle can receive free COVID testing. Testing is available regardless of your citizenship/immigration status. The COVID-19 Tests are free. Insurance is not required. If you have insurance, Medicare or Medicaid you must provide this information and UW Medicine will bill them. You will not be charged. You do not need to have insurance or a doctor's note to schedule a test.
